What to Do on a Perfect Sunday?

Dec 11 '05-Sundays are typically reserved for family and church. There is also the mall for the mallrats and Starbucks for the coffee lovers. I had plans of staying indoors and just be the coach potato and chill for the entire day. 7:00 AM Carlo: "Krrinnggg.....Krinngggg..... Dude, pack up your gear were heading back to Pier Uno. Jett is diving with us, yahoo!Pick you up in 15" Micmac: "What, now? I thought we were doing diving next week?Hello?Hello?"
I must've assembled everything in 10 minutes. Surprise, surprise. So we drove for 2 hours to Pier Uno and unpacked our stuff. Jenny and Alex were there, Chito was busy computing with his calculator, Salve was out doing DM duty for a customer named Jenny who was with her dad and step mom, and Pier Uno is packed with visitors!

So we did 3 dives during the day. Visibility was poor but it didn't hamper us. We visited Twin Rocks and saw a variety of fishes. (too bad we didn't have an UW cam that time) We saw Surgeon Fishes, Blue Ribbon eel, octopus, and a whole lot more of other sea creatures for which i dont know the names to. I better start reading a guide to marine life.
So if you feel Sundays are boring days, head out to Pier Uno. It's worth the trip.

The Waves Beacons.....to Anilao!

Nov 12 '05, Saturday 7 AM-Finally. The day is neigh. Just stepped out of the office, grabbed my cafe mocha, got a cab, and went straight to our rendezvous point. Carlo and Julyette are there already. I'm impressed...they're not your garden-variety morning people yet they're there. :D Today is when I do my first open water dive to complete my certification. There i met those who will be my first batch of diver buddies namely, Raphy, Philippe, Richard, and the mastahsupahfly instructor himself, BQ. :D We are joined shortly by Bea on the way. The weather was great, almost perfect. :D There is nothing in this world that could bring me down except my weightbelts :)

Pier Uno, apparently a newly constructed dive resort frequented by the Hello Divers Group is absolutely worth the trip and the money. :D The rooms come complete with airconditioning and very nice bathrooms. The service is outstanding. Everything you need is taken cared of, and fast.
We geared up, checked our equipment, and got into the water and did some simple dives close to the resort. Wow. Those were my only words to describe the tranquility underwater. I didn't wanna go back ashore after that but I had to because Mastah had other priorities (Bea and Carlo were doing their own certification courses too that day) so I was done for the first day. Cant wait til the next day.
Food there is exquisite. The staff did a very good job in preparing the buffet meals. Even better was the ice cold beer. :D
We woke up the following morning quite early..I actually woke up at around 3 AM because I don't normally sleep at night (I'm a nocturnal creature!) so I just laid back outside, had my cup o' joe, and waited for the sun to rise. After breakfast we geared up and headed out to sea. Once we got to our destination, the experience is best told through these pictures.
Can't wait til the next dive. I'm counting the days.

Scuba diving...the adventure begins....

A buddy of mine called me up one day and said. "Hey man, I'm taking Scuba diving lessons...I'll be doing maritime security training as one of my firm's services." I said, "Cool. When do I start?" I don't recall my buddy clearly inviting me to take up scuba diving for a hobby, but what I do remember is me literally just diving into the underwater world. I met his Dive Instructor by the name of Bayani Quilala, or BQ, talked about scuba and the certification course, agreed on the terms, setup the schedule, and voila....I am instantly hooked on diving!
Now BQ is one character with over 10 years experience in scuba diving and just recently, bagged the Course Director certification and he is now considered to be the youngest Course Director in the country.
After countless hours watching the PADI dive videos he instructed me to watch, i finally made my first confined water dive. It felt strange at first breathing air from a regulator that was rigged to a tank strapped in your BCD (Buoyancy Control Device) and feeling the "squeeze" slowly building up in your ear as you descent. Of course, you will be trained on how to deal with that as it is one of the basic skills you need to learn in scuba.
You will learn basic open water dive skills like equipment familiarization, mask clearing, equalization techniques, the buddy system and a host of other skills to master in order to be a certified open water diver.
